Our work packages (WP)
Learn more about our focus areas, which are organized into different work packages.
COORDINATION, management, dissemination and public affairs
The aim of the coordination and management WP is to ensure an efficient and transparent management of the programme, to ensure scientific rigour as well as knowledge transfer, uptake and exploitation of results.
Alternative PATHWAYS to sustainable future food systems
Use scenario planning to encourage change among important food system actors, and advance ways in which such methods can be applied in a Swedish food system setting to prepare for an uncertain future.
Next generation sustainability and resilience INDICATORS for food system transformation
Identify the next generation of indicators and targets to monitor and guide performance of the food system in delivering healthy diets from a sustainable and resilient system.
Production-side MEASURES for reducing the environmental load from food systems
Focus on how large improvements in climate impact that can be achieved and what are the synergies and trade-offs with other environmental impacts, in a life cycle perspective, when implementing selected individual production-side measures developed with the aim of improving the food system’s greenhouse gas balance.
Sustainable food SYSTEMS with net-zero climate impact
Quantitatively assess synergies and trade-offs across sustainability indicators for different scenarios of future Swedish food value chains (i.e. the system spanning from agricultural production to processing, to the final consumption of food). A specific aim is to identify and describe systems with net-zero climate impact while trade-offs against other areas of sustainability are minimised.
POLICY related levers and barriers for change across the food value chain
Deliver evidence based strategies for policy design and implementation for a rapid, transformative change at scale and over time. In particular, the WP Policy wants to add to the knowledge base about what makes policy intervention effective and feasible.
Food supply chain ORGANISATION structure for sustainability and resilience
Characterize the overall organisational structure of the Swedish food supply chain, including examining how the food value (from farm to fork) is distributed along the supply chain, and the market power across the different actors in the food value chain and to identify how the food supply chain organisation impacts the businesses possibilities to adopt more sustainable practices and to withstand severe chocks, such as severe drought periods.
TRANSITION LABS for enabling change Aims and objectives
Use transition lab as method and create an arena to build capabilities and capacities to act and shape transition pathways. Participants of this work package will act as transition engines by facilitating transdisciplinary dialogues between academia (e.g. researchers and Mistra Food Futures academy members), and food system actors (e.g. public sector, industry and civil society); enabling reflexive learning between multiple actors; and supporting their capacities and capabilities for co-creating transformative change.
