My research focuses on the interplay between different dimensions of sustainability within the food system. I aim to understand how we can consolidate the transformation of the Swedish food system into one that provides fair incomes and decent livelihoods for people working in food and agriculture, motivates consumers to make healthy food choices, and operates within safe environmental boundaries. Against this backdrop, I am interested in measuring progress over time, as well as potential synergies and trade-offs between individual indicators and dimensions. My research emphasizes the need for adequate data and indicators to promote agency and accountability among food system actors. At the same time, I want to understand how policy decisions can help or hinder this process of transformation. Methodologically, I address these questions using machine learning algorithms and different types of structured and unstructured data.
I received my PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Göttingen, where I applied machine learning methods to specific challenges along the food system, such as food production, consumption, or food security. As I am passionate about data and food research, my PhD allowed me to combine my areas of interest and specialize in the intersection of data analytics and advances in multidimensional sustainability in food systems. I have a Master’s degree in Economic History from Lund University, where I specialized in the role of agriculture in structural change and sustainable development. During my studies I gained international experience in the USA, Ghana and Argentina.
